"I don't want to be a part of a program where you're not expected to win, and win big," head coach Hank Carter said.

Carter is the Cavaliers' third coach in the last four seasons. After being promoted off former coach Chad Morris's staff, his first ever head coaching job is to lead the three-time defending state champions.

"It's been the easiest transition for me, just because I feel like Coach Morris really got me ready for this transition," Carter said. "He trusted me enough to give me a lot of responsibilities. It never fully prepares you, because you're never ready until it fully prepares you, but it's been good."

And even though there is a new man in charge, players said he's very familiar.

"Coach Carter is a great guy," senior wide receiver Connor Floyd said. "Everything's going to be the same. You might see new stuff every now and then, but it's going to be a lot like the past two state championship [teams]."

Senior quarterback Michael Brewer agreed.

"It really hasn't been any different," Brewer said. "Everyone can tell just by watching practice everything feels the exact same."

What's also the same is the goal to win another title-- and the work starts now.

"That was started with Coach [Jeff] Dicus and his staff, and Chad and I came in and we kept it going," Carter said. "And that's kind of my job, is to make sure we keep building on that. But really, to stay hungry, understand how did we get those three stars on our helmets. It was from hard work, being unselfish and mentally tough."

The Cavaliers' first game is against Westlake on August 28 at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.
