Lake Travis’ victory over Westlake — coupled with Aledo’s loss to Stephenville — was enough to vault the Cavaliers to No. 1 in this week’s Associated Press top 10 poll.

The Cavaliers, No. 3 in the preseason, also jumped over No. 2 Denton Guyer — the team they beat in the Class 4A championship game last season. Lake Travis received 16 of the 25 first-place votes and 244 points overall, compared to six votes and 226 points for Guyer.

Stephenville, which upset Aledo 48-47, went from unranked to No. 4. Aledo dropped to No. 7 in the poll. Cedar Park, which was ranked fourth in the preseason, fell out of the poll after losing to Westwood.

In 3A, Wimberley kept its hold on No. 3, behind No. 1 Tyler Chapel Hill and No. 2 Henderson.
