Weather causes accidents, power outage

Austin Police told KXAN Austin News they responded to dozen’s of accidents due to rain in the area. Officials with Travis County said they responded to at least 9 accidents because of the weather since midnight.

Ed Clark with Austin Energy says a rainwater leak in a substation control cabinet is responsible for a power outage near Lakeline and FM 620, leaving 2,200 Austin Energy customers without power. Service was restored shortly before 4:30p.m.

Sports fans who attended the UT vs. Oklahoma basketball game at the Frank Erwin Center were caught in the rain  as a sea of umbrellas emerged from the building and onto city streets. Those without umbrellas used whatever they could find, including t-shirts, extra clothing and newspapers to take shelter from the cold precipitation.

KXAN Meteorologist Rhonda Lee says we should expect showers off and on throughout the day . Rain should continue to fall thought the evening into overnight, tapering off late Sunday afternoon.
