Students to provide updated records before Aug. 24

Starting in the fall any Lake Travis ISD returning student whose immunization records are incomplete or who does not have an immunization exemption on file with the school nurse will not be allowed to attend classes.

“This is a requirement of the Texas Department of State Health Services as mandated by the Texas Administrative Code,” said Becky Burnett, LTISD assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. “Our previous practice provided students with a 30-day grace period in which to get their shots up to date. They could also obtain an exemption from the state within that time. However, we are realigning our practices with those of the state.

“So beginning this fall all returning students will be required to be current with their immunizations prior to the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 24,” she said. “Shots before school; it’s the rule.”

Parents can contact their child’s physician to verify whether a student’s immunizations are current. If immunizations are required, updated records should be submitted to the child’s school nurse before the start of school.

Additional information regarding school immunizations—including a complete listing of required immunizations, exemptions and free or low-cost immunization clinics—is available at www.ltisdschools.org/healthmatters.
