Tuesday’s forecast calls for heavy rain, high of 81

Heavy rainfall and some wind is expected Tuesday in the Austin area, according to the National Weather Service.

After a hot day today with highs near 94, thunderstorms may move in to the Austin area after 1 a.m. Tuesday, the Weather Service says. There is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the early morning hours of Tuesday. The Weather Service is predicting a low of 72 with mild winds.

Storms are expected to pick up Tuesday, producing heavy rainfall and wind gusts of 20 mph. The chance of precipitation is 70 percent and the high temperature is expected to be near 81, the Weather Service said.

Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue into Tuesday night. The forecast is for cloudy skies and a low around 65.

For Wednesday, the chance of rain drops to 20 percent, but the front will mean continued cool weather with a high of about 81. The chance of rain for Wednesday night is 30 percent.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms may increase to 50 percent on Thursday with a high of 84. The chance of rain drops to 30 percent Thursday night with a predicted low of 70.

On Friday, the chances of rain hold at 30 percent Friday but the high is expected to increase to near 90 under cloudy skies, the Weather Service said.
