Crockett conquered
first round playoff opponent Lake Travis in the second game of a
best-of-three series but lost the first and third contests, as the
Cavaliers advance to face Boerne Champion in the next round of the Class
4A playoffs. The Cougars (17-13) complete a successful 2010 campaign.
Lake
Travis hosted the first game and crushed the Cougars 15-0. On Friday,
the brown and gold bats went to work at Garrison Field. Johnny Barron's
RBI produced the first run of the game for Crockett. Mark Davis then
launched a home run to extend the home team's lead.
Brendan Banta
made it 3-0 with an RBI. Joey Yanes created more offense with a two-run
triple. Crockett led 6-0, and then a grand slam by catcher Harrison
Cummins built the Cougars an 11-4 advantage. Barron's single in the
bottom of the seventh clinched the triumph for coach Miguel Trevino's
crew.
In the rubber match on Saturday, Wyatt Church scattered
four hits and led the Cavs to a 10-2 win. Each team committed four
miscues in the field. Crockett scored single runs in the second and
fifth frames. Seventeen seniors leave the Cougars in June via
graduation, with junior Michael Rendon remaining to help guide Crockett
in 2011.
