As Lake Travis continues to rise, homeowners living in Graveyard Point have packed up their belongings and headed to higher ground.

Dewey Cooper and his wife told KVUE they are not sticking around to watch the water rise. They watched for the last two days as water from the lake inch closer and closer.

"Last night when I went to bed it was the same as it was this morning when I got up,” Cooper said. “Now, it’s way up."

A fourth flood gate opened at Buchanan Dam on Thursday, sending even more water downstream.

By Thursday afternoon, the water reached the front room of Cooper's house. Luckily, almost all of their belongings had been moved out. Until the water recedes, the Coopers will stay at a friend's house up the street.

"I don't like it, but that's what's happening," Cooper said.

Others in the neighborhood said they are keeping a close eye on their homes, hoping for the best.

Lower Colorado River Authority officials said the lake is expected to continue to rise in the coming days. If you live on the lake, check LCRA’s Flood Operations Report for current information on floodgate operations and lake conditions.
