Lighted buoys on Lake Austin will keep out boaters for PGA

Installation has begun for lighted buoys on Lake Austin meant to keep canoes, boats and kayaks out of the designated areas during the Professional Golfers’ Association Golf Tournament (PGA).

Starting Thursday, buoys will be installed to a 250-foot area starting from the 360 bridge ending on the south shoreline golf course.

Sunday, additional buoy installation will take place from the 360 bridge to the north and south shore. Along the PGA course for a half mile buoys will indicate a no wake zone under the city ordinance.

Only emergency vessels will be allowed in the area unless stationed police officers give the okay for boaters to pass through. Police encourage boaters to have necessary paperwork on hand in case officers conduct a spontaneous inspection.

Permit holders will be allowed to enter Lake Austin through the cove near the Austin Community College campus, which will be under the control of the APD Lake Patrol boat for the tournament. PGA is issuing the permits to authorized boats.

On Monday, March 21 through the 27, the 360 bridge boat ramp will close to the public.
