The drastic drop in lake levels has forced a popular Lake Travis hangout to shutdown until the water returns to normal.
Johnny Fins closed its doors one week ago after the levels at Hurst Harbor became too low for business.
The floating restaurant, which usually sits along the harbor’s boat ramp, was moved to an area where there is still enough water to keep it afloat.
However, customers are now unable to reach the building. Johnny Fins' management declined to comment.
Staff at a nearby marina said the water is falling on average one feet per week, and many businesses that stay afloat face the prospect of literally hitting the lake’s bottom.
The news comes in the midst of stubborn drought and heat wave that brought the high temperature in Austin to 107 degrees on Monday, breaking a record set last in 1923.
The National Weather Service said that the July 2011 was the hottest and driest on record at Camp Mabry.
