Catching catfish in Lake Travis

"These real big, juicy nightcrawlers are the best bait I've found," he said.

Large, live worms are the best way to catch catfish in the clear waters of Lake Travis, where the fish feed by sight. Christenson uses his sonar near LakeWay marina to find out where the fish are feeding.


But once you’ve caught one, reel in it quickly and be careful. The tips of a catfish’s fins are razor sharp.


"Two on the sides, here and here and here. They're the ones you have to be very careful about," said Christenson. "They're like needles."


The fish are a great choice for eating, but they must be a least 12 inches long if you want to keep them.
