You can add another trophy to the case at Lake Travis. Their
football team won the state 7-on-7 championship at Kyle Field on
Saturday.
Lake Travis beat DeSoto 42-39 for the Division-I summer
league title. Senior receiver Connor Floyd was named the tournament's
Most Valuable Player. Senior quarterback Michael Brewer threw for all
six touchdowns.
Brewer led the Cavaliers to their third straight
4A state championship in 2009. Garrett Gilbert, now a quarterback for
the Texas Longhorns, led Lake Travis to their first two.
Should
Lake Travis four-peat, it will be with a third different coach. Former
defensive coordinator Hank Carter is now their first-year head coach,
replacing Chad Morris.
The state 7-on-7 tournament began with 64
teams in the Division-I bracket and 64 teams in the Division-II
bracket. Brownwood won the Division-II championship over Cameron,
34-32.
