Authorities are investigating the death of a Pasadena man whose body
was recovered from the Pedernales River on Sunday morning.
Witness
Frank Romo says, "The dog jumped in I guess to try and rescue him and
everybody else just pretty much panicked and were in disarray of what
had happened. I guess they just couldn't believe it was happening. When
he went under, he never came back up. And it was just seconds, just
seconds was all it took."
According to Roger Wade with the Travis
County Sheriff's Office, Todd Mobley, 48, was staying at a family
vacation home on the Pedernales River over the weekend.
Around
11:15 p.m. on Saturday, Mobley was seen swinging from a rope at a dock.
Witnesses say he did not resurface after a second attempt at swinging
into the water.
Search efforts were initiated late Saturday but
officials called off the search and began a recovery effort at daylight
Sunday.
Mobley's body was found by divers shortly after 9 a.m. in
14 feet of water, nearly 50 feet from the dock.
Wade says the
death is being investigated as accidental at this time. Toxicology
results will be ready in six to eight weeks.
