Lake Travis Middle School teacher Elisa Garrett was the grand prize
winner in a national contest in search of the most innovative history
lesson.
The
History Channel chose Garrett's lesson "Avoiding the Civil
War," which asked students to time-travel back to the Civil War era,
reading primary sources and designing multimedia projects that showed
ways the crisis could have been averted.
Garrett won $5,000 for winning the middle school division in the
Innovation in History Education contest, which emphasized use of
technology and richness of content. She is the only winner from Texas.
