With the season’s second tropical system headed inland near
Brownsville later today, Central Texas remains under a flash
flood watch and could see plenty of rain today and into the
weekend, according to the National
Weather Service.
The incoming tropical depression could bring 3 to 5 inches of rain to
the Austin area today, leaving the area under a flash flood watch until
7 p.m., the service said.
“The counterclockwise circulation around the depression will cause
surges of deep tropical moisture to overlay South Central Texas today,”
the service said in its report. “The added buoyancy to the air will
increase rain chances significantly and make heavy rains possible,
resulting in potential flash flooding. The greatest surge of tropical
moisture will occur from the I-35 corridor eastward, where rainfall
totals of 3 to 5 inches are possible.”
Today, rain
chances are 90 percent, falling to 60 percent tonight, the service
said.
The high today will be near 88, with winds between 5 and 10 miles,
the service said. The low tonight is slated to be near 76, the service
said.
