On June 28, 25 friends, men and women, paddled over 21 miles on stand up paddle boards to raise money for families dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

The foundation, Dam That Cancer, was started by Mark Garza. Garza was inspired after his father’s diagnosis of Stage 4 prostate cancer.

Almost $30,000 was raised by the event, with the proceeds going to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

My Fit Foods , a prepared meals company with four Austin locations, helped raise $16,000 for the event at their stores.

The paddle was an all-day 8 hour trip from dam to dam on Lake Austin.

Garza and Wes Priest of My Fit Foods have now developed the foundation. The Flatwater Foundation for Families will provide families in need with access to counseling and family therapy via traditional methods and outdoor adventures on the water.
