The Fourth of July fireworks display at Auditorium Shores will go on even if it's raining, Don Hill, public relations director for the Austin Symphony, said.

But the symphony cannot play as planned in stormy conditions because of the potential damage to their expensive instruments, Hill said.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms on Independence Day.

"Were going to wait to make a decision right until show time," Hill said.

The show is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m.

If there is rain, Hill said, the symphony will substitute live music with a CD of patriotic music.
