Rain has begun to pelt Austin as the outer rain bands of Hurricane Alex reach Central Texas. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the afternoon and evening and there is a flash flood warning in effect until tomorrow at 7 p.m.

So far, Austin has received between a quarter and a half inch of rain, but the National Weather Service said it expects heavy rains to continue as more rain bands reach the area.

Brownsville and Corpus Christi have received the burnt of the storm, with reports of heavy rainfall and funnel cloud formation.

There are no reports of road or park closures as of yet in Austin, officials said.
