Between the high water levels, the heat and Memorial Day, it’s going to
be quite a packed crowd on the water this weekend.
Businesses that
rely on lake traffic are excited for the next few busy days.
Chip
Van Nostrad is the manager at Johnny Fins, a restaurant that literally
needs water to stay afloat. He is looking forward to seeing a big change
in customer flow this summer, with Lake Travis 26 feet higher than it
was a year ago.
“We expect a very positive impact towards the
restaurant and the marina next door,” he said. “First harbor is very
busy, boat rentals are doing really well, so everybody is very excited.”
Also pumped up for fun in the sun are boaters and water-lovers that
didn’t get chance to enjoy the lake as much as usual during the drought.
Steve Hiser brought a boat from Texoma, and he plans to get a lot of
use out of it.
"Every weekend and even some during the week, I
think," he said.
For those who do plan on heading out this
weekend, be extra cautious.
The LCRA is urging lake-goers to slow
down, don't drink and drive and have life jackets either on or at least
close at hand.
