As is the case with every holiday weekend, a personal watercraft ban will be enforced on Lake Austin starting Friday at sunset.

Officials say the rule is important to keeping the lake safe during busy times.

The ban prohibits personal watercraft including jet skis, wet bikes, motorized surfboards and similar devices.

Police will be patrolling Lake Austin to look for violators, and to urge people to follow the Texas Water Safety Act and City of Austin boating laws and ordinances.

The ban will be lifted Tuesday at sunrise.
