BY THE NUMBERS

2 Upcoming weekends devoted to regional track meets around the state. Locally, the Region IV-4A meet will be held May 15-16 in San Antonio, followed by the Region IV-5A meet on May 22-23.

2 State softball rankings for Bowie in Class 5A and New Braunfels Canyon in Class 4A. Both open their bi-district playoffs today.

4 Central Texas products who regularly start for the University of Texas baseball team: McCallum's Kevin Lusson, Georgetown's Connor Rowe, Connally's Kevin Keyes and Georgetown's Taylor Jungmann, a starting pitcher.

5 Central Texas teams that will compete in next week's state golf tournament: the Westlake boys and girls in Class 5A; the Lake Travis girls in Class 4A; and the Salado boys and girls in Class 2A.

7 Number of team state golf championships won by the Salado boys program, which is the most among Central Texas schools. The Eagles, who won the Class 2A title last year, are back next week to defend.

7 Central Texas football players who are among the 400 nationally nominated for next January's annual U.S. Army All-American Game. Last year, the area was represented by only one player — Pflugerville's Alex Okafor. The 400 will be cut down to 90 this fall.

ALL-CENTEX SOFTBALL

Central Texas softball coaches are urged to make nominations for the All-Central Texas Team as well as to submit their All-District teams, for future publication:

All-Central Texas nominations should be e-mailed to ejhartvb@yahoo.com and include the player's full name, position, year, season statistics and any other pertinent information.

All-District teams should be e-mailed to sportsdesk@statesman.com or faxed to 445-3868.

Football season may be three months away, but it's not too early for Central Texas coaches to submit their 2009 varsity schedules, which can be e-mailed to rtijerina@statesman.com or faxed to 445-3868.
